Welcome to Saporito for Judge!

On February 10, 2011, Attorney Joe Saporito announced his candidacy for a seat on the Court of Common Pleas of Luzerne County at the Pittston Memorial Library before a large crowd. He announced his candidacy with a “dedication to justice.” He will seek nominations for the Democratic and Republican parties for the May 17 primary election.
Saporito said “I want to bring my breadth of experience as a practicing lawyer for the past 26 years to the bench. I believe my experience as a trial lawyer and counselor to many has given me the necessary foundation to serve justice - and - only justice - as a judge.”
Saporito, 51 has been an assistant public defender for the past 25 years and has tried many jury trials involving homicide to disorderly conduct and he has been involved in thousands of court hearings. As a practicing civil trial attorney, Saporito has handled auto accidents, slips and falls, work accidents, wrongful discharge, social security disability, unemployment compensation, property disputes, business disputes, business formation, land use issues, municipal issues and wills and estate administration. All of these issues, in some form or another, come before the court and will not be new to him as a judge. Saporito currently serves as the Vice-President of the Luzerne County Bar Association.
Saporito is a graduate of the Scranton Preparatory School, Villanova University and the Dickinson School of Law. He resides in Jenkins Township with his wife, the former Giovanna Falcone and their two children, Sarah, 21, a Junior at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and Joseph III, 18, a Freshman at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. They are members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pittston where he serves as a member of the Parish Financial Council, the Holy Name Society and as a lector.
Throughout his professional career, Saporito has remained active in the community. He has served as a member and former President of the St. Mary’s Assumption School Advisory Board and a member of the Diocese of Scranton Region 7 School Advisory Board. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Scranton Preparatory School, the Board of Trustees of the Pittston Memorial Library, the Board of Directors of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce and as a Board Member of the Earthly Angels Autism Board.
In his announcement, Saporito referenced the balancing of scales as his vision of justice and pledged that no matter who the parties are, who the lawyers are or what the issues involve he will dispense justice fairly, equally and balanced for all.
He concluded his remarks by recalling his late father, Joseph, Sr., a practicing lawyer for 55 years and one of the City of Pittston’s youngest Mayors in the 1950's. “He left me a legacy of integrity, trust and respect. I promise to uphold it and I give you my word.” |
